Brooke pursued journalism as a career path upon accepting the fact that activism doesn’t come with a paycheck. She aspires to cover social unrest on a global scale and to be an international correspondent for German media. Long-form features summarize her writing style, no matter the topic. She’s allergic to sticking to one beat, though band profiles and music-related pieces are the equal and opposite force she naturally gravitates toward. Brooke is a former editor of both special projects and the arts and life section at the Daily 49er, the official campus news source of California State University, Long Beach — now her alma mater. Her works have also been featured in Los Angeles Magazine and DIG Magazine. She has experience interviewing and reporting in German. California College Media Association awarded her column “‘May the fourth’ be with you, next gen” first place as Best Entertainment piece of 2016. Her profile feature “Alumni in Love, 46 years later” made honorable mention in the CCMA’s 2015 Best Feature Writing Print or Online and was a finalist in Los Angeles Press Club’s 2015 SoCal Journalism Awards under youth media.
A Long Beach native, raised in the Caribbean. Dominique is a free spirit and an alumni of San Diego State University where she received a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology. Her first love is reading and the second is conveying thoughts and ideas from a pen onto paper. She’s not a gourmand or a sommelier, but she does have a healthy appreciation for all things food and wine related, especially international cuisine. Travel is a passion and she is excited to learn about new cultures, eat, dance, drink and swim her way through the majority of the seven seas.
